never bothered telling anyone my birthday back home, besides my wife. and i told her no goddamn parties, either. got the feeling my friends would try throwing me one, so i just never told them when it was. worked out pretty well.

And that makes sense. Didn't really have anyone who would do the same, I don't think, but parties never meant much either.

apparently not, i asked. think the exact words were "no catch, only material wealth."

parties just not a thing where you're from? lucky.

Well, hell. At least it's one good thing in all this, I guess.

Not so much that they're not a thing, though. More like I just don't really have any friends or family to speak of, and it was never really a priority when I did.
